Where have all the ducks gone?

Did all the ducks and other such flying creatures disappear in your area when we were all iced in? Or are your local ducks still lined up in good pecking order?

They all packed their bags and flew off on holiday here, except for a few less intelligent ones who huddled together in a corner. Perhaps they were intending to sit it out. But even they got their suitcases packed about a week after the others had deserted.

The resident swans and a couple of renegade water hens also fled the scene. But not to worry, there’s a bird sanctuary about 5 miles from here called “Martin Mere." Apparently that’s were they’ve all gone.

This little story reminds me of when I abandoned ship and went to the prison hotel, before we had a squirrel to keep us warm…

So for those who might’ve forgotten, this is what a duck looks like, well what several ducks look like really…

They make a noise called “Quack” from time to time too. Mostly in the middle of the night, when said quacks are amplified to the point of sounding like they’re coming from a loud hailer…

Anyway I took this photo for a competition to see who could get the most ducks in one photo. Needless to say I won and was presented with an out of season Easter egg that had seen better days. But never mind it’s the thought that counts.

Obviously this was taken before they all buggered off, in fact it could even have been because of this photo that they all buggered off…

And lastly, in a failed attempt to write a serious sentence, we noticed about 12 ducks, both swans, and one of the renegade water hens return home when the ice melted. But since then we’ve had freezing fog round here so we´ll struggle to see them even now.

So QUACK to that…

What a difference a day makes

I took these photos today, aimed the camera in roughly the same place as yesterdays subtle, ok, BLINDING sunset.

And this was the outcome. Yuk…

A sunset and a moon

It might be flipping cold round here but it doesn’t mean we can’t have stunner sunsets in winter, took these today just before 5pm…

An insured snippet of advice

From one who knows NOT what she’s talking about most of the time. But does concerning a Squirrel being installed, as a (highly important) afterthought to the boat itself being built and fitted out. A sort of cart before the horse situation, but we live ‘n learn…

Dave rang Mr Boat Safety Certificate today to make sure we didn’t need (the certificate) doing again. There’s an empty space next to the Squirrel “Stove” section on ours, because it was but a space on the floor at the time of inspection.

So we thought we’d better cover our ass(es) and make sure what the score was with a retro fit. He said there was no need for the Safety Certificate to be re-done, it stands as is / was at the time of the BSC being carried out. But he also told us to inform the insurance company so they can add it to their records which we did, and it has, end of and phew…

For anyone adding a new appliance (?) to their boat that’s listed on your current BSC (with N/A or a blank space next to it). Always check it out and inform the insurer if advised to, personally I would anyway.

See I’m a veritable fountain of knowledge occasionally…

Another lesson learned the hard way or even the daft way

Remember that phallic symbol we found next to the chimney made of frozen smoke? Well we assumed it was…

Dirty boat...

Anyway, since then, Dave’s been focusing on sorting out seals on the chimney, and making sure no more crap was leaking. He had to wait for drier weather for his cleaning efforts to work.

So today was “clean up” day. Here he is scrubbing Flash bathroom into the anti-slip paint on the roof with a brush. Not recommended for use on shiny paint of course…

Half way there – kettle on, brush cast aside…

The dirty rope on a hot wash in a bucket full of bio friendly stuff I use in the proper washer…

He still hasn’t finished, but the rope’s come up nice...
