The inside cover story

It’s not my cup of tea, but if you’re into traditional boat paintwork:

Up close and a bit too personal

Cue Jaws music:
First of all on today’s menu we have The Predator…

Yes, it’s Mike the pike, sat right in front of the boat sunning himself yesterday, (cheeky bugger). I thought it was MASSIVE, Dave said it was just a baby. Even so, due to an absence of little fish hanging about waiting to be charmed by a maggot, he blamed The Predator for frightening them all away, that’s why he never caught any. No excuse that, just another Fisherman's excuse Tale, and no we don’t eat pike! Or anything else that comes out of the canal for that matter, they all get recycled, as in, put back where they belong – sometimes after a photo shoot though.

Which reminds me of this recipe someone kindly passed on to us, “How to cook a pike”
  1. Line a baking tray with tinfoil
  2. Stuff the pike with herbs
  3. Sprinkle lightly with olive oil and lemon juice
  4. Carefully cover the fish with another piece of tinfoil, so it doesn’t touch the fish
  5. Cook on Gas Mark 5 for 15 minutes per pound, plus another 15 minutes to tenderise
  6. When times up, remove from the oven and leave to stand for 10 minutes
  7. Carefully remove the tinfoil
  8. Throw the pike away and serve up the tinfoil with lightly sautéed potatoes…
Enough to make your teeth curl isn’t it…?

Tugboat Freddy exposes himself

On Monday Tony´s Tugboat Freddy was dragged out the water into the boatshed for a good bum slapping and a new paint job, Dave was again appointed chief photographer. And it came as a surprise to them all that Tugboat Fred had a flat bottom, Tony the Mop thought he had a keel…!

You don’t have to be a big fan of tugboats to see just how cute he is – that’s the Fred, not the Mop…

EEE, brings back memories of when TT was unceremoniously dragged out for her bum smacked,, another graceless exit from the water.

Right, that’s enough about Freddy for now, I was going to post a fascinating picture of a cobweb today but due to a lot of pestering had to do this instead…

Big Bob the bream

If you thought that bream in yesterday’s post was a big bugger, it must’ve just been a practice run. (Well don’t ask me the details, I know nothing). THIS is what Dave caught last night:
Big Bob the Bream…

004

The alert was sounded even before BOB was netted “HEATHER, GET THE CRAP CAM QUICK, THIS IS HUGE.”

Both the professionals and the non-fishermen / women in the immediate area came running round to catch a glimpse of BOB. Honestly it brings tears of joy to the eyes sometimes, but only if you’ve got an eyelash stuck in one, or hay fever.

Anyhow, that’s enough fishy photos for the time being, else I may have to change the name and theme of the TT blog to “Tickled Trout” or something…

We´ve got fish here

There’s so much NOT happening at the moment, I can’t keep up with it all.

You know I’ve mentioned Dave’s changed is fishing technique? Well he netted this thing last night. So something must be working right because this is the biggest one he’s caught here yet.

Worthy of a photo, but only because it’s smiling at us and (Dave) almost got a round of applause from his jealous rivals…

I’ve just been ear-wigging a very serious conversation between the 3 expert fisherman concerning small pellets and swing tips. Must’ve had the same look on my face as the fish did.
 Smile

And now for something completely different:
It’s official, the Leeds Liverpool Canal is well and truly CLOSED, gates are locked, the feeds from the reservoirs have been shut off, and BW have no idea when it will be re-opened, bye bye world… Even the North West news did a report that was even more detailed – all doom and gloom really.

Did I say at the top of this post that there was nothing happening…?
