A face in the clouds

I discovered this amongst some of the photos that I posted yesterday, but it didn’t get an airing then because I wanted to do a comparison thing:

Let me introduce you to the skeleton face ghost cloud…

And here’s the skeleton face ghost of the missing bridge who I met by accident one day last year…

Creepy eh…?

News Alert: We’re running out of water round these ‘ere parts. A hosepipe ban is imminent, and there´s talk of BW closing the Leeds Liverpool canal, because it’s so short of water which comes from the dwindling reservoirs.

This is dam typical seeing as it’s the first summer since we bought the boat where we’d be free to trundle up and down out there without any time limits now we’re retired.

Ah well that’s the way it goes – or doesn’t as the case may be…

Up in the sky again

How can you tell England are playing footy? Well the big “football hush” has just descended outside, which is all very pleasant. Except Dave’s watching the match on TV inside with the volume UP ON HIGH. (The racket the crowds make drives me nuts).

So, considering all is still outside here’s some “stills” of a different kind that I took on our way back to port on Monday.
Amazing cloud formations…

The local bobby was following us for a while but I think we lost him, he he…

Well England have just scored and Dave’s reaction just blew the roof off…

Awesome Stuff

First of all, I took these photos on Sunday night after a couple of glasses of vino. So the camera takes all the credit for how well they turned out.

We were still out on the cut having a BBQ with the friends, my glass kept getting topped up when I wasn’t looking, well that’s my excuse.

So let me present the “Just after sunset” collection, or even the “Just a few hours before a massive hangover” collection…

It´s a beautiful day, hey, hey, hey

So I set off for a power walk (of sorts) down the towpath this aft and took the camera with me...

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s another Tern doing a turn for the camera…

Aha, so that’s what farmer Giles sprays his crops with – hope he has a fancy water filtration system…

From serenity to scrabbled

I thought I’d take some photos from the front of the boat this morning to show the view from where we’re moored up today. When it comes down to marks out of 10, it must score highly in the list of: “Gorgeous places to be right now,” if there is such a thing...

007

And looking the other way, in the short space of time since we were last here, this field has been transformed from this…

Into this, looks like Farmer Giles has been working overtime with the Miracle Grow…

Yup…

Spooky Rufford Old Hall

We set off on one of our little jaunt down the canal this afternoon, so I got these creepy photos of the back of Rufford Old Hall as we trundled past. There’s supposed to be 3 different ghosts that hang out there on a regular basis:

013

014

015

019

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We’re now moored up in our favourite spot, so here’s a photo of today’s prize catch, (a bream) well the only catch so far to be honest.
But I guess it was worth every pint of maggots bought…
022
No, no, no, hang on a minute there’s now another one…
024
Oh for goodness sake, not again. Just heard “Heth grab the camera quick”  from his highness on the bow, it’s all too much to handle.
Naff pun there, but appropriate…
Duckling alert and rescue
We had a little bit of drama last night, so here’s a photo diary of events:
Two teensy ducklings plopped down into the water on their own from the island opposite us, but there’s no way back up for them…
Mum looks on in despair, her nest must’ve been up top somewhere…
015
What a dilemma, does she stay on dry land and take care of the others…? Or does she go after them and end up with the whole brood in the drink…?
017
Decision made, there’s only one thing she can do…
019
Go to the rescue…
022
And take the rest with her:
Reunited, she led them all somewhere safe…
024
Aw, a happy ending at last…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And she came to show off her brood today:

All 12 of them…!

Is this for me…?

Yep, must be…

044

Didn’t take long for them all to catch on to the idea…

051

Only 10 on this photo, because the other two were having an argument…

050

All the other adult ducks stayed well out of the way while we were feeding them, which was very courteous and a bit strange too…

056

Doesn’t usually stop them diving in and taking over…!
